Design Tips

  • When determining paint color for a room, paint a white poster board with the proposed color. Move the painted poster board around the room during different times of the day to ensure satisfaction. Colors can change dramatically with the change of natural lighting.

  • Prior to purchasing furniture for a room, draw a floor plan on graph paper and arrange furniture using templates (available in many decorating books or art supply stores) to ensure correct size and shape for the space. This will help to eliminate purchasing mistakes.

  • When arranging a room, determine the focal point of the room and start with the most prominent piece of furniture to address that area (i.e. a sofa facing a fireplace).

  • When selecting accessories, think 'more is less, bigger is better'. Many people choose too many small accessories which can create a "cluttered" look. Larger scaled accessories make a clean, yet powerful statement.
